Dr. Simone CAPPELLO (Local Unit Responsible)
Chief and Team Lead of "General Applied Microbiology for Environmental BIotechnology" (GAMBIT) Group at IAMC-CNR of Messina, Dr. Cappello graduated in “Biological Science” at the University of Messina (Italy) and he got the PhD in "Science and Engineering of the Sea" (XVII cycle) at the University of Naples "Federico II " (Italy). His research is focused for several years on study and application of bacteria in the sectors of industry, ecology and of environmental biotechnology and developpment of integrated technologies for recovery of oil-polluted area.
Dr. Gabriella CARUSO
Graduated in
Biological Sciences and Specialist in Applied Microbiology, since 1994 dr.
Caruso is a researcher at the CNR-IAMC Messina. Qualified as Full Professor in
Ecology in 2014, she has been a member of PhD School
in Applied Hygiene - Univ. Messina (2006-2011). She is interested in the
monitoring of bacterial pathogens (Escherichia coli, Vibrio
spp.) in aquatic environments and seafood through both culture and rapid methods
(fluorescent antibody, enzymatic assays) and to the role of heterotrophic
bacteria in organic matter decomposition through enzymatic activities. Co-author of more than 150 scientific papers, with H
index 20 (Google Scholar), dr. Caruso is member of the Editorial Board of
several International Journals (The Open Fish Science Journal; The Open Marine
Biology Journal; Journal of Ecosystems and Ecography; Journal of Pollution
Effects & Control; Oceanography: Open access; Journal of Coastal Life
Medicine; Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Biochemical Technology; Journal
of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development).
Dr. Maurizio AZZARO
Biologist and Naturalist, Dr. Azzaro got the PhD in
"Science and Engineering of the Sea" at the University of Naples
"Federico II " (Italy). He has carried out his research in several marine
and lacustrine environments, from transitional aquatic ecosystems to the ocean
depths, in arctic and antarctic areas. His main research interest deals with
the trophodynamics of the microbial loop and ascertaining how they vary in
response to different typologies of anthropogenic or natural disturb, including
climate change.
Dr. RosaBruna LA FERLA
Rosabruna La Ferla is Senior Scientist at CNR. She is the scientific coordinator of IAMC-ME team of biological oceanography in several national and international research projects carried out the Mediterranean Sea and Antarctica. Her scientific interests are i) the biogeochemical Carbon cycle: biological and microbial pump; sink and source di CO2 in aquatic environments. ii) the microbial oceanography: microbial activities and biomass in epi- meso- and bathy-pelagic systems in relation with climate changes.
